Alchemist of the Month: Angelina Kalahari
The former international opera star-turned-author is an alchemical maestro of voice, words and the power of our breath…
Angelina Kalahari entered this life among the red dunes of Namibia’s deserts. Her first sounds merged with the power of the massive yellow moon that lit up the vast African spaces. There, where the heavens presented the splendour that the Milky Way flung across its canvas, she found her voice.
Africa, with its raw beauty and diverse faces, enchanted Angelina during her nomadic childhood. Her family roamed the desert in search of crops for their karakul sheep herds. Amidst strange legends, amazing animals, and wonderful people, Angelina cultivated a profound sense of self.
Angelina’s mother introduced her to the enchanting melodies of Mario Lanza and other tenors. A record player and records accompanied the family on their travels, and back to their farm. The gift of divine music resonated within her, compelling her to pursue voice and performance studies. She earned degrees in drama, singing, and opera, leaving her magical universe behind.
Angelina continued her nomadic existence as an adult, enthralling audiences with her singing, acting, and directing. These activities allowed her to visit a world far beyond her beloved Africa. She shared her talents on such diverse platforms as opening the busking scheme on London Underground, to recitals at the Royal Opera House, other stunning venues across the world, and everything in between. Queen Elizabeth II invited Angelina to Buckingham Palace in recognition of her contribution to the UK’s music, culture and economy, where she met and sang for Her Majesty.
Meanwhile, Angelina’s fascination with the human vocal instrument deepened. She became a teacher, sharing the magic of voice and performance. Even when illness silenced her singing voice, she continued to weave storytelling into the shows she produced and directed, like Tempus at the Tristan Bates Theatre in London’s West End, and being co-founder of the North London Performance Academy.
Unable to sing as before, Angelina turned to writing. She penned novels, plays, children’s stories, and published articles. Her debut novel, The Healing Touch, based on a true story, marked the beginning of her career as an author. Ten books later, she continues to write more enchanting stories for readers eager to escape into worlds they can’t wait to explore.
Having lived all over the world, Angelina currently lives near a massive park in London, UK, surrounded by awe-inspiring trees. Her husband and fur cat daughter share her home, along with a rapidly diminishing population of house spiders and a smallish herd of dust bunnies. The city’s artistic scene has introduced her to inspirational souls who form an integral part of her tribe.
Angelina’s journey—from desert sands to London’s vibrant streets—reflects a life rich with creativity, resilience, and wonder.
Angelina writes non-fiction books on the voice, her specialism and obsession for over thirty-five years, contemporary, paranormal and supernatural romance to explore love, paranormal women's fiction and supernatural thrillers to understand love, and middle-grade novels to give love.
